Bonegun
special preview segment
The first comedy story I want to publish. I am probably a better comedy
writer than I am an action writer, mainly because I'm very demanding in some of
the specifics of my action stories that a lot of people might find pointless.
That's because they don't know as much about fighting as I do, I think. Anyways
Bonegun is made in the same tradition as some of the craziest, fast-paced anime
and manga out there, like Excel Saga, FLCL (Fooly Cooly), and Jungle wa Itsumo Hale
Nochi Guu (the Jungle was Always Nice, Then Came Guu or Jungle Guu as most fans
call it) to name a few. It also lampoons (with
great respect I assure you) some items and moments in some popular action anime
and manga, especially Trigun and Gungrave. Probably the biggest influence on
this series quite surprisingly is Animal Crossing. Animal Crossing is a cute
kids video game where the entire town is nothing but animals. This is a more
adult version of that, with some really good plot twists. Also, for now I am only displaying
one character, though I really have about three that are fully developed and at
least a half dozen getting there. As for the reason behind the name,
that's part of the plot that I don't plan on giving away just yet.
the Story
"Albert Einstein once said that he never slept anymore... Never sleeping
means never dreaming... At this point, that might be a blessing. I'm never
myself anymore, never awake. My world is being overrun... by cute little
animals?! I don't understand it either, but I do know one thing... I want my
world back." Lester was a guy who wanted sleep for so long. In between
work, school, friends, family, and entertaining himself, it seemed like he got
virtually no sleep at all. His parents send him to a psychiatrist who in turn prescribes
a revolutionary experimental sleep aid. The drug has been known to have a few
side effects in the previous patients, but the most common result is just being
a little lethargic for about the first hour of every morning. Lester takes the
drug and gets the sleep he longed for. For the first time in nearly a year he
dreamed, and what a realistic dream. But why was he a raccoon? Who were all of
those talking animals? But as time passes the drug takes more control over his
system and the world of his dreams seems to fuse with the real world he knows.
All Lester can wonder is which is it... Is it that he never sleeps anymore or
that he is never awake?
the Character
Lester/Rocky: Someone didn't believe me when I told them I could make a series
where there is an animal version of every regular person and to where people
could make the connection in between them. That's why I drew the two pictures
below for them real quick. The most important thing in this comedy is the raw
emotion that everyone will exhibit. Everybody is at a different spot on the
spectrum of emotion, so knowing the difference in between each character
is as easy as telling whether they're angry or sad. In case you are wondering, yes the raccoon
is wearing an American flag as a cape. Like I said, this is a comedy, and you
can expect many things out of the ordinary in this one.
