KARTING

Karting is one of the world's fastest growing motorsports. This is because it offers all the speed, competition and entertainment of any motorsport but without being very expensive. It is also one of the most accesible of all motorsports with hundreds of kart tracks in the UK alone.

My first memory of going karting was when on holiday in Cornwall with my family, I was very young but remember it being an oval circuit at the top of a hill. Since this was all I remembered from the holiday, it shows that it's something I remember fondly. Recent holidays have also included karting and became a holiday must.

I sometimes go karting with my friends or family on more local tracks. I have been karting on an indoor kart track in Lincoln called Pro Sport Karting. These karts are quite fast and the track is quite short and twisty which makes for exciting racing with a lot of overtaking.

Most recently I went karting with my brother and my friends to Waltham kart track which probably has the fastest karts I have driven, with average lap times of 40mph on quite a twisty track. These karts are very good fun since they can be easily spun if you lapse in concentration and speeding inches away from tire walls at 50mph also adds to the excitment.

These karts are quite slow compared with the speeds of championship karts which can reach speeds of much over 100mph, although I have never driven karts anywhere near that fast. This kind of racing is much more competitive and is clearly a lot faster.
