The Russian Blue Cat
Let's start with me being completely enamored with this breed. They're extremely clean, short hair that doesn't shed much, friendly toward people, non-destructive...it's the ultimate cat, as far as I'm concerned. Yes, other cats have funny stories to tell, but they often involve breaking things that belong to their owners.

Blues are known for their non-destructive, placid nature. Unlike the boisterous and attention craving Siamese, the Blue is typically a very soft-spoken, undemanding cat. They're perfect for busy singles and couples, and make great apartment pets. They're accepting of the owner who is not home a lot, but are still completely devoted to that person when they do return home.

Their remarkable coat, a bluish-silver with almost a white tipping, makes them appear to shimmer as they move. Their fur is very dense, and incredibly soft. Running your finger through its coat, you can leave a pattern on the cat due to the fur density. Their bright, clear eyes begin as blue, turn yellow, and gradually to green - some become so vibrant they're like emeralds! Their face is set in this permanent grin, as if they know something you don't. And of course, they're remarkably photogenic. :)

Did I mention their back paws only have four toes? I have no idea why.

This breed is thought to be from far northern regions, and can therefore tolerate cold very well. Mine, in fact, gets hot very easily and will often move OUT of the sun!!

I can't say enough wonderful things about this breed, because it suits me perfectly. For more information, please visit
russianblue.org (which is an amazing site with more information than I can describe), russianblue.com and russianblue.net. You should also pick up a copy of The Russian Blue Cat by Ingeborg Urcia, it's a great resource for owners and soon-to-be owners! I hope you'll enjoy Blues as much as I do!
