Chieko �Impie� Harano passed away February 25th at home in Leawood, Kansas. She was born in Oakland, California in 1912 to Matsuno and Taro Katayama. She married George Harano in 1929, and they celebrated 53 years of marriage together. In 1943, Impie and George and their first six children were interned with thousands of other West Coast families of Japanese descent, first at the Tanforan Race Track in San Bruno, California, then in the Topaz Relocation Center near Delta, Utah. After WWII, the family moved to North Platte, Nebraska, where they owned and operated Platte Floral for thirty years, and all nine of their children graduated from North Platte High School. In 1961, Impie was named �North Platte Mother of the Year.� She moved to Leawood in 2001, to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in North Platte and an associate member of Second Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Through the years she was active in PTA, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H, Band Parents, Mariners, Mission Sewing Group, Presbyterian Women, Altrusa Club, Credit Women�s Club, The Aching Backs Garden Club, the Nissei Fellowship and other groups. She was preceded in death by her husband, her three brothers and their wives and a son, Roger �Bucky� Harano. She is survived by Robert and Solange Harano of Baja California; Ronald Harano of Rockford, Illinois; Randall and Robie Harano of Nampa, Idaho; Paul and Kim Harano of Houston, Texas; Betty Ann and Frank Akiyama of Columbia, Maryland; Helen and Frank Christ of Seattle, Washington; Kay and Yoichi Kanayama of Chino Hills, California; Audrey and Sam Parigi of Beaumont, Texas and Gail and Ed Cunningham of the home. She is also survived by twenty-five grandchildren, thirty-one great- grandchildren three great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends and admirers. Her Memorial service will be at 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, March 10th, at Second Presbyterian Church, 55th and Brookside, Kansas City, Missouri, 64113. A second memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 13th at 10:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church,1901 West Leota, North Platte, Nebraska, 69101, followed by burial in the North Platte Cemetary.
