Magickal Tools
Many people believe that tools are not neccessary and only put you in a mind set to do better magick, but here is a list of tools you may use.
Athame: An athame (ah-thom-ay) is a double-sided daggar used for directing energy in a spell or ritual. An athame is generally not used for cutting, and in some beliefs, never. A sword is also used as an athame.
Bessom/Broom: A broom, sometimes called a bessom, is used for sweeping away negative energies and is a symbol of the hearth. Modern spells sometimes require "riding" a broom. Usually made of birch.
Chalice/Gobblet: A chalice is used for holding sacred wine and is a symbol of the Goddess's womb. Some use their chalices interchangably with a cauldron.
Wand: A wand, like an athame, is used for directing energy. Wands are usually made of wood with a crystal topper. Some are all crystal or glass, or even all simple wood. Wands are decorated to represent the owner.
Cauldron: A caulron is used to mix herbs, as incense burners, and candle holders. Are also used to contain spells and vary in size.
Candles: Candles are used to illuminate the altar or sacred space in a natural form. Different colored candles can mean different things and are also occasionally made with herbs. Represent the Fire element on an altar or in a circle.
Crystals: Crystals of different kinds supposedly have different magickal properties, or by New Age philosophy and spirituality, vibrate at different frequencies, creating different effects. Crystal Quartz is the vanilla of crystals, it can be used for anything and is the basic.
Drums/Instruments: Drums and instruments can be used to offer music to the deities or to put people into a state of mind that is more attune to magick and energies. This state of mind is sometimes called Alpha. Drums' rhythms can be used to set the pace of a ritual or for a dance.
