Author and Novel
Angels and Demons Summery Dan Browns Angels and Demons is a novel about the conflict of science and religion and if the two will ever be able to peacefully coexist or remain interlocked in a battle of whos right and who is not. The main character, Robert Langdon, is called to the CERN research facility to investigate a mysterious murder of a physicist/priest who is branded with the word ILLUMINATI. The word is one that confuses Langdon who believes the infamous satanic cult to be extinct. As he investigates further he is aided by the daughter of the murdered man, Vittoria, and discovers the murders true intentions. They discover that the labs sample of antimatter, which has power equivalent to the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. The situation only escalades when they are contacted by the hassassin who informs them that he will blow up the Vatican at midnight using the antimatter in retributions to the acts of the Vatican against the Illuminati so long ago. Langdon is also told that a cardinal priest of the Vatican will be killed every hour until midnight on the four Alters of Science. Langdon recognizes this hint and rushes to locate the four churches which are guided out by a series of clues involving poems and statues. In doing so he is aided by the late Popes chamberlain and the Swiss Guard but even with the extra support he fails in saving the cardinals and clueless of the location of the antimatter bomb. When all seems to be lost the chamberlain gets an epiphany of the ware bouts of the bomb and detonates it safely in the air. When Langdon believes everything is at peace he is informed of the leader of the Illuminate, someone he knew all along aiding him on his task.
Author Dan Brown is an interesting and influential author whose books are of conspiracies that interest the minds of many. Having grown up in a life of science and religious philosophies; he displays this theme in many of his books. He uses art and historical, as well as religious details to entertain us in his books featuring Robert Langdon for an example. Overall he has written four books and all have been on the New York Times Bestsellers List. His fascinating book, The Da Vinci Code, which deals with corruption and conspiracy of the church, was recently turned into a film and nominated for a Golden Globe. He is currently working on a third book in the installment featuring Robert Langdon called Solomons Key. But on a more negative note it is very noticeable, in my opinion, that Browns books are not that original. His two books featuring Langdon were for the most part exactly the same in plot twists and all only differing in the scenario. He uses the idea of the traitor and backstabber in both novels which I believe to be overdone way too much and highly not original and while I was captivated by it in The Da Vinci Code, it totally killed Angels and Demons for me. So sadly while I still admire Brown, but to a lesser extent now, I must end this by quoting Stephen Colbert from the Colbert Report, One million monkeys typing for eternity would produce a Shakespeare, ten thousand drunken monkeys typing for ten thousand years would produce a Hemingway, and ten monkeys typing for three days would produce a Dan Brown.
