NEWS LETTER    SEPTEMBER 2004

This Newsletter  is to introduce my book.......      “THE  CAWDELL  FAMILY”.

You will know, from the last NewsLetter, that the book was in the hands of a publisher who was arranging the printing and  binding with a hard back cover.

Despite my instructions, when placing the order in February, for a delivery date of May the 30t,h,  it finally arrived on June 28th, and was incomplete i.e. without any colour pictures or Family Tree. A panic ensued in order for the book to be ready for the Cawdell Family Reunion on Saturday July 2nd at Baldock.

All copies had to be collected and taken back to the printers. Eventually at 8.30 pm on the evening of Friday July 1st  34 copies arrived at my cousins David Cawdell, who lives at Dagnall

Herts, where I was staying for the Reunion  week-end. The total print order was for 100. The remainder arrived two weeks later in the Isle of Wight.!!  I now know what is meant by ‘stress’.

Fortunately this was sufficient for the Reunion and I have since despatched further copies to those who ordered by post and email.  I did not anticipate when embarking on this project that publishing a book privately in hardback was going to be so difficult and expensive.

However as I have said before this was a labour of love and something I felt was going to be of historic interest to all members of the Cawdell family for many years to come. It is the culmination of some 15 years research and could not have been achieved without the assistance and cooperation of many members of the Cawdell family. Michael Cawdell’s input  has been  invaluable and Peter Norman and Thomas James Cawdells earlier trees gave all our research a firm foundation. You will also see from the credits that a number of Cawdell’s and others contributed  also assisted with information

I hope you will feel that a copy of the book is something you and your family will enjoy having and  keeping as a Cawdell family record.  I have already said that there is absolutely no question of there being any profit in the sale of the book, in fact I am selling it at £32.00 a copy and only charging £2.00 for Post and Packing. (more for Canada and Australia.) This is considerably less than the actual amount.

The Family Tree is included and is at the back of the book.(from 1644 to the present day) This is as up to date as my information. Please notify me of any additions for inclusion in a later addendum. You should amend your copy accordingly

Please let me know if you would like a special dedication where I sign inside the front cver.

The 2005 Cawdell Reunion at Baldock was not quite as well attended as the two previous ones but it proved to be a very enjoyable afternoon with an excellent buffet provided by Michael and Christine Cawdell.
