"Just Be Yourself"

This has to be the most assinine saying I've ever heard. I walk down the street and see some pothead stumbling around asking what some random person's name is and if they "Have a light?" and I always seem to be discusted. I will say somthing about it to one of my older friends and they will say something "wise" (or lack thereof) like "Oh; just nevermind him, he's just being himself." This is when I want to throw in the 1-2 combo "Yeah, and Charles Manson was just being himself too, look where that got him." Needless to say this would be the end of the argument.
Of course the point of America is to not have to conform to a certian set of beleifs or standards, but this term isn't used THAT loosely. "Being yourself" isn't getting attention by wearing old bedsheets and listening to Slipknot 24/7 on Meth or being a goth transvestite. It was meant to not be afraid of people judging you for who you are.
