| Alyssas Birth Story |
| I was 7 1/2 months pregnant when Grant and I arrived from Australia. At our first appointment in Christchurch we found Alyssa was footling breech. The doctors in Christchurch also changed our dates by an entire month, from December the 16th to November the 23rd. We decided to have Alyssa by elective c-section. The day of our babys birth was to be November the 13th, 1996, we were very excited and nervous and being 18 at the time, we were not expecting that much of a change in our lives. The day of the c-section arrived, and Grant and I walked to the hospital to have our little baby, whom we had already discovered was a girl. We had already named her Alyssa Krystal. When we arrived at the hospital we found they were very busy, we waited a few hours as the emergency c-sections rightfully went before our planned c-section. Finally it was our turn, Grant got into his scrubs and joined me in the operating room, where I had already been prepped and given the spinal block. I was laid down on the thin table and what seemed like ages later (only to find out it was mere minutes) Our beautiful little baby girl entered the world weighing 7 pds 8 and 54 cms tall. After her birth it was discovered she was indeed a month early, and her due date should have been the second week of December. Alyssa had great problems breastfeeding and eventually I gave up after 10 long weeks of trying. Which was one of the best things we could have done! |
