I was a Second Lieutenant and joined the squadron in late March of 1952. I did not know much about your grandfather. But to the best of my knowledge, and that is 51 years ago, I recall that shortly after take-off with a bomb load and going on a mission, he had engine failure and crashed into the water that was southwest of our field. I do not know if he was recovered (He was - Ed.) Is this what you know about how he was lost?

From boot camp and aviation school, I went directly to MCAS El Toro to join with
VMA-121 and their A4D-2N Skyhawks. By mid 1960 we deployed a small group of Sailors and Marines to participate in the first US Navy Marine Team Flying Brothers 1960 at Subic Bay. Great time, Semper Fi.
