![]() God of the earth, son of Shu and Tefnut; Geb was forced to lie upon the earth below Shu, to separate him from Nut, his consort. His reclining position created the mountains, and valleys, oceans, and lakes, and other natural landmarks. Geb was the successor of Shu as the third divine pharaoh. He once ordered a golden box containing Ra's uraeus to be opened, causing him grave injury. Geb was only cured by a lock of Ra's hair. After he retired, he become Ra's herald and settled disputes amongst the gods. Geb is "The Cackler," and is associated with the goose.
