Bes

A popular foreign deity often referred to as "The Lord of Punt," Bes presides over the welfare of households and domestic affairs. He protects the family, especially pregnant women, from natural and supernatural adversaries. Unlike most Egyptian portraits, Bes is portrayed with his face in full-frontal position, not in profile. His physical attributes are much like Egyptian scenes of the pygmies from the south. Bes is bandy-legged, has a rotund stomach, protruding eyes, facial hair, and a lolling tongue. However, his comical attributes are often paradoxed with a particularly aggressive traditional image of him, in which he wears a leopard skin and brandishes a dagger.
