Probably of Nubian origin and one of the wives of Khnum; Anuket, as the Egyptians knew her, is the goddess of the First Cataract who was worshipped at Elephantine alongside her husband and Satis. She is depicted as a woman wearing a plumed crown and carrying a staff, and often associated with gazelles. Her name means "Clasper" because she represented the tightness of the water flow between rocks; she was also a parton of the Nile and responsible for the inundation.
