Ammit

A demoness often depicted with the head of a crocodile, torso of a lion, and hind quarters of what is probably a hippopotamus. Known as the "Devourer of Souls", she was a vital part in the Weighing of the Heart Ceremony. During this ceremony, the heart of the deceased was placed on one end of a scale, and the feather of Ma'at on the other side. Anubis then weighed the two, and if the heart was lighter than the feather, the person had not weighed their heart down with deceit during their lifetime and were allowed to pass into the Afterlife. If the heart weighed more than the feather, then Ammit would then devour it, in turn preventing passage into the Afterlife.
