Her name means "Westerner"; she wears an ostrich feather on her head which was a trademark of ancient Libyans. The West was often associated with the dead; Amentet is shown coming from trees to welcome the dead and give them water and bread; many other goddesses were known to do this; among them, Hathor and Ma'at.
