As shown above, Tokyo is proud of being the "world's largest city".  That's if you include the population from surrounding areas.

Some statistics about Tokyo itself:

- In terms of the population within city limits, Tokyo is the
world's 12th largest city.
- In terms of land area, Tokyo is the world's
61st largest city.
- In terms of population density, Tokyo is the world's
17th densest city.
- Tokyo has the
lowest birth rate in Japan, at 0.98 children per woman.
- Tokyo has the world's
second busiest subway system.
- The "City of Tokyo"
ceased to exist in 1943, when the fascist government of Japan legislated it out of existence.  Today, it is "Tokyo-to", a "capital" which is not a "city".

Japan's population is both shrinking and growing older, so Tokyo will probably experience a dramatic reduction in population as old people move out of the expensive, stressful city.

What is there to see in Tokyo?  Let's start with
Roppongi.
