Leaving Japan
One of the few good things about Narita is that it has decent gift shops in the departing terminal.  So you can hold off on buying gifts until then -- just tell your friends back home a romantic story about how you received the gift from a dying ninja.  Gift shops sell sushi refrigerator magnets, origami, kimono dolls holding fragile paper umbrellas, or rice cakes with red bean filling to make your friends gag.

Just be sure to get off at the right terminal when you arrive at the airport -- otherwise, you could be faced with the expensive disaster of buying a new ticket to get to the other terminal.

And if you're really lucky, you might be served by muscular stewardesses.
