Sri Sant Prabhu Dutt Brahmachari Sri Sant Prabhu Dutt Brahmachari of Sri Sankirtan Bhawan Ashram

Sri Sant Prabhu Dutt BrahmacharijiSri Sri Sant Prabhu Dutt Brahmachari was a saintly person who was running a Sanskrit school in Basant Gaon New Delhi. The place he was living is locally known as Brahmachari Ashram. Sri Sri Brahmachariji had studied Sanskrit in Bhulansher till his fourteen years of age and went to Kasi to further studies. He had participated in the freedom movement and had then established a Sanskrit school in Prayagraj. He started observing 'moun virth' (abstaining from talking). He is known to many as a 'moun sanyasi', who fought the first general elections of Independent India from Allahabad constituency against Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He continued his spiritual life and religious duties for the benefit of the mankind. He had written many books on various religious subjects. His famous book being 'Chaithnya Charithaavali' published by Gita Press. Today there are three Sanskrit schools run by the ashram Sankirtan Bhawan first one at Prayagraj upto MA and BEd, one at Brindavan teaches Sri Bhagvat, one at Delhi up to Graduation level.

Delhi Ashram Sankirtan Bhawan and Hanuman temple

Sri Sri Sant Prabhu Dutt Brahmachari who had established a Sanskrit school 'Sankirtan Bhawan' in Prayagraj around sixty years back had established a Sanskrit school in New Delhi's Basant Gaon, near Vasant Vihar. Sri Brahmachariji an adherent devotee of Lord Hanuman had dreamt of establishing a Hanuman temple in the Basant Gaon school premises. He uses to state that Sri Hanuman is the 'kotwal' (guardian) of Rajdhani of India, who could oversee the entire Rajdhani of India. He had conceived a huge statue of Hanuman for this. He had got the statue of Hanuman carved in Karkala, a place near Udipi by one of the best sculptor Sri Radha Madhavji. The curved statue was brought from Karkala to Delhi by the special railway wagon through rail.

Hanuman statue from Karnataka to Delhi

It was news those days that the huge statue of Hanuman sculptured in south had arrived by train in Tuklagabad and is being brought by truck to Brahmachari's ashram in Basant Gaon near Vasant vihar. Every day there use to some news in the newspapers published from Delhi about the Hanuman statue. Many tyres of trailer on which the statue was being brought had busted on the way, many times the axial had broken down, that way Hanuman had halted at many places on His way to Basant Gaon. An astonishing fact is that the most of the places where He halted there was a pupil tree. Enroute from Tuklagabad everywhere He halted, huge crowd use to collect to have the glimpse of the statue. In the process it took few days for the statue to arrive at the Basant Gaon. Then I was residing in Gole Market and went to see Hanuman statue at Basant Gaon. The statue was on the specially built trailer, placed under the peepal tree, just about few hundred meters away from the Sankirtan Bhawan, on the road connecting the outer ring road and the Basant Gaon. The Hanuman was seen as if resting after a long journey from Karkala. The Hanuman was to be installed in the Sankirtan Bhawan main courtyard just few hundred meters away.

Hanuman's might

We were told latter that many cranes and machines were brought for moving the huge statue of Hanuman to His proposed place of installation. But all efforts went in vain, and He had not moved even an inch. For seventeen days had passed by then, Hanuman could not be moved in spite of the best machines pressed into action. The people were stunned and perplexed to know the reason for this. The engineer who had undertaken the task had surrendered that he will not be able to finish the job now. The members approached Sri Brahmachari on that day a Friday and requested him to guide them. After a while Sri Brahmachariji told them to prepare for the puja to be performed to Hanuman. The industrialist who was present there asked as to what he could do for the occasion. He was asked to distribute laddu prepared in pure ghee as prasad to the devotees who will witness the puja.

Humbling of engineer by Hanuman

As per the plan Sri Brahmachariji had performed the puja in a grand scale. Sri Brahmachariji also performed anointment for Hanuman with honey, curd, milk, and fruits etc. The engineer now had the statue of Hanuman moved with the help of four machines. But the statue did not move. When members looked upon Sri Brahmachariji, he told them "Do not think that the power of the machines can move Sri Hanuman. Pray on to Him with devotion and piety, request Him to move and then even use one machine will suffice the purpose." These word as thou from Lord Hanuman Himself, with devotion in their heart mind occupied with the name of Sri Ram and Sri Bajragbali, with use of one machine Sri Hanuman had moved His place with ease to the courtyard of the 'Sankirtan Bhawan'. In my mind I am clear that this incident had proved that He could be moved with our devotion and not through our money or muscle power.

Sri Sankirtan Bhawan Ashram and Temple complex, Basant Gaon, New Delhi

Mighty Hanuman

The Hanuman statue made of monolithic single granite stone is forty feet tall, twelve feet wide and six feet thick and weighs about one hundred fifty metric ton. This gigantic monumental Hanuman, the tallest single granite statue of India, had been installed on a twenty five feet foundation. The sight is so impressive that we will gather all our lost courage and enthusiasm and feel great about it.

Activities of Ashram

An all-out effort of Pujiya Swami Sri Sri Sant Prabhu Dutt Brahmachari, the ashram is functioning well giving Sanskrit education to many deserving children. The food, clothing, lodging and other necessities are provided free for the students. The huge complex had been maintained very well neat and clean.

Hanuman of Sankirtan Bhawan

Today in the Basant Gaon 'Sankirtan Bhawan' temple stands the Hanuman the 'kotwal' of Rajdhani of India. The Hanuman is seen facing East in the central courtyard of the Sankirtan Bhawan, a magnificent sight to see and adore. The Lord is seen carrying the sanjeevi parvat in left hand, in the right hand holds a mace. His wrist is adorned with well carved kankanam. His chest adorned with ornamental necklace, and yagnopaveetham. Lord is wearing nupooram and thandai in His feet.

The protector of Rajdhani is also the protector of us. I salute Thee to give me inspiration, magnanimity, and Santhi.
