Letter to Togashi Udon, Ise Zumi of the Dragon Clan and Unicorn Tanto Bearer

 

 

 

Togashi Udon-san,

 

            I feel I must offer my most humble apologies to you.  Had I known what Bayushi Shoju had truly been planning, I would have found a way to keep you out of the middle of it all.  However, I stand by his decision.  If he believed that the death of the Hantei and his line would be essential in saving the Empire and defeating He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named then I have to believe this as well.  Bayushi Shoju is not one who acts hastily.  While I fear his actions may start a war between the clans, the Empire will grow stronger from it much like the phoenix from the flames.  Indeed, I believe it is one of the reasons fate has chosen me to bear the Phoenix Tanto.

 

            My regret comes from not being fully prepared, both for myself and for the benefit of my comrades.  While I would have acted the same way, gladly showing my support for my clansmen, my heart tells me that the rest of you may not feel the same faith in Bayushi Shoju or the Scorpion clan as a whole.  I am confidant in my clan's love and devotion for the Empire.  If I could have found a way to exempt you all from the events that have transpired I would have.  Even if I had known what was going to transpire I could have better understood the consequences of our actions.
