Ten boys were playing with a ball on the beach. Suddenly the ball rolled into a hole with a diameter, almost exactly the size of the ball. The boys tried to reach but the hole was so deep they could not feel the ball.Then one boy took a stick and with the stick he could feel the ball but not get around or under it to lift it up. Then came a clever boy who got the ball out in only one minute.

(if your children can not figure out how, you can tell them at this point the Aesop fable in which a thirsty crow found a bottle with a bit of water. Its beak could not reach the water but it was clever enough to fill the bottel with pebbles, so the water level rose and it could drink the water anyhow)
The smart child in this story went to take water from the sea and poured it in the hole. Soon the ball floated on the water to the surface and the ball was retrieved without a problem
