The WAZ
Still living in Germany, we had a newspaper, the WAZ (Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung), delivered daily to our doorstep. In the job posting section I found an advertisement that a company in Northern British Columbia was looking for tradespeople like Heavy Duty Mechanics, Electricians, Millwrights, etc. Shortly after I applied for a Heavy Duty Mechanics Job I got an interview with Cassiar Asbestos Corporation and also the job.Renate, Andrea and I immigrated in June 1976 to Canada.
Arriving in Vancouver at the hotel we met the first German Hans Stein, who also got hired over the newspaper (WAZ). Both of us had to undertake a physical examination for the company. Hans was then of to the Clinton Creek Mine and we went to Sparwood, B.C. to visit with Uncle Werner and his family. Two weeks later I met Hans Stein in the mine in the Yukon.
