I stood on the edge of a dark and frothy sea
Across its depths, wide and deep, I saw a black city
A distant land to my back, a land where the sun never rises
A cold wind blew from its direction, and on the wind
Cries, screams, shouts, sadness, the curse of mankind
And the stain of sin hung in the air that flowed from that land
I lived there once, and I remembered that darkness
But now, before me stood a white city
And a man came walking up the trail
The city that glowed bright, brilliantly aflame with something
Something called new, something Holy, something joyful
And that man continued walking towards me
First off in the distance, but now up close
I could see that he had been hurt, at one point
Scarred from a bad past, it seemed to me
But despite a face of scars, I saw a smile
A brilliant smile and eyes that danced with their own life
He said to me, as he walked up to me
"Come with me, there something you must see."
So I walked with him, side by side, along that trail
That road, where other footsteps had gone, many footsteps
His hands were hurt too, from what, I couldn't tell
I asked him, "What happened to you?"
"Long ago, I took a few cuts and saved someone's life."
I asked him in reply, "Did it hurt?"
"Only a little, but the pain was worth it." He smiled again
The he said "Look" as he pointed towards the city.
To be continued. . .
