Fallen
The fog flows in, shrouding the field with silence
A lone flag, tattered and falling to pieces
Lies on the ground, mudded up and stained red
And across the expanse, are mounds of uniforms and men
All who once smiled, all who once laughed
Lively with the blood that coursed through their bodies
Breathing with the humanity that exists in all
But now and forever more, they are silent
No guns fire, no bombs explode, no more commands are given
All is finally and simply, calm.

In the distance, a lone bugle sounds
A ghost in the fog, moving through the bodies
Touching one and moving to the next
Whispering in each of their ears
You are remembered
