Cranach, Lucas the Elder

First Artist to travel to Italy to study the renaissance. Made studies of space and the human body. Made contactwith the Humanists at Nurenberg, who wrote about art.

Leader of his own workshop at the Sakson Court of Wittenberg. Very imortant for the existence of the Donau-School.

Father of Hans Holbein the Younger and Ambrosius Holbein. Influenced by the Schools of Augsburg and Ulm and by Dutch art.

Painter of the Archbisshop Uriel von Gemmingen in Aschaffenburg and Cardinal Albrecht von Brandenburg. Stoped working there after being influenced by Luther.

Another very important painter of the Donau-School. Worked at the Bisschop's Court at Passau.

Important represantive of the German Renaissance. Worked for Emperor Maximilian I
(Bruneck, 1435 - Salzburg, 1498)
Worked before the transition period, so was influenced by the Late-Gothic style.
