After a smooth trip
down to the Science and Technology capital of Korea, the Han river
Harriers faced a determined Daejeon outfit.
The game was played on the big grass field and it is well worth trip once
in a season. Unfortunately only 8 regular Harriers made trip plus a
brother and a mate added to the line up at 10 vs 11 (3 subs)
Daejeon scored early after a poorly cleared corner and then defended well.
They attacked on the break with speed and it was credit to the Harriers
defense to keep the blacks at bay for so long. The tiring Harriers
played > well in spells and one could only ponder what out come would have
been with a full strength side.
After Andy Collin became crippled and moved into the goal for the third
period the game opened up and Daejeon took advantage with little
resistance in net to score a second. The Harriers fought hard and
eventually David Shin flicked a back header over the very competent
Daejeon keeper. Daejeon scored a third before the final whistle putting
the game out of reach.
The Harriers admittedly were frustrated toward the end and used some
colourful language. For the most part Daejeon were good sports and a well
organised. No complaints about traveling to Daejeon from the Harriers
(except for standing on the train on the way home).
The Harriers undermanned played a tough and physical game. Karl, Lawrence
verbally and particularly Ryan didn't shy away from getting stuck into a
few of the Daejeon players. No one saw what happened, but something
clicked in Ryan's temper and he let loose a few connecting swings to the
hairless Daejeon defender. It was good to see the two shake hands and get
on with the game.
The Harriers only goal came when Kevin threw in the ball toward toward
Evan, marked tightly as he was all game Evan managed to flick on the ball
with his head where Dave was waited to delicately back head the ball over
the keeper and under the bar. Not an easy thing to do considering the
height of the Daejeon keeper.
