River Harriers vs Daejeon de la Cuba |
|
¡°Les¡± Han River Harriers will be playing 1st Division football next season after they secured a vital point against Daejeon on the weekend in the last round of league play. Injuries, travel, and business have severely depleted the Harriers strength over recent weeks and their performances have dropped off accordingly; nevertheless, 12 made the trip to Daejeon. Thanks to young Harry Creech for filling in; also Tae Hwan and Sang Ho for coming out. And let¡¯s not forget Sean Freer who played despite injuring his heel while chasing his cat down some stairs with a camquarter. Anything for your art, eh Sean? Daejeon took the early lead. A spot on through ball from the half way line curved past Randal and landed right at the feet of a Daejeon striker. He made no mistake finishing within the penalty area. The Harriers fought on and created several chances. Evan headed on to the post while Dave and Harry created some danger on the left wing. The Harriers had more possession but to be fair, Deajeon had the better chances. In the second period the Harriers played with more intensity. Sangho, Evan and Didi managed shots on goal but the big Daejeon keeper denied them all with a dominant performance between the posts. At the other end of the pitch, Harrier defensemen Markus and Kevin stepped up and created some attacking plays. At the break it was Kevin who rallied the troops, reminding them that a loss was not an option. Evan obviously took these words to heart with a deflected header off a perfect Didi free kick down the center and into the crowd at the goal mouth. Deajeon, not wanting to be robbed of a victory in the last ten minutes of play raised their game and came perilously close to scoring on a through ball and later in a scramble in front of the Harrier net. Kevin, Markus, Lawrence and Randal did well to frustrate these efforts. Man of the match must go to Trent. Playing in goal the entire game he marshaled the defense and made a few crucial saves that kept the Harriers in the game. Scorer: Evan Hale Man of the Match: Trent Anderson ¡¡ |
