Game Summary (by Dan):

A quote from The Hunt for Red October comes to mind ...

Seaman Jones: Conn, sonar! Crazy Ivan!
Capt. Bart Mancuso: All stop! Quick quiet!
[the ships engines are shut down completely]
Beaumont: What's goin' on?
Seaman Jones: Russian captains sometime turn suddenly to see if anyone's behind them. We call it "Crazy Ivan." The only thing you can do is go dead. Shut everything down and make like a hole in the water.
Beaumont: So what's the catch?
Seaman Jones: The catch is, a boat this big doesn't exactly stop on a dime... and if we're too close, we'll drift right into the back of him.

Why you ask? Well, I'll tell you, but I must put you through the match report first ...

Now, today's match started out great. No kidding. SBFC is one of the premier teams in the league, and we outplayed them for the first half of the first half. We even scored first when Evan(season:4goals,2assists) found Guillaume(season:2goals,1assist), who made a nifty spin move for a 1-0 Harriers lead. We were pumped, excited to have finally scored first in a game this season, and we were hungry for a 'W'. Shortly before the half, SBFC tied the game on an unmarked header. Even shorter before the half, SBFC's defender blooped a ball that found its way into the net, thus seeming to deflate the Harriers' confidence.

However, after a pep talk from many of the team members, the Harriers came out into the second half prepared to score again. We challenged well, applied good pressure, and were on the verge of tying the game. Then the unspeakable happened. We were awarded a red card. This is now our second of the season, and by my calculations that puts us at 36 disciplinary points (14 more and we lose a point in the overall standings - this is something we cannot afford if we wish to stay in tier 1, especially with results like today). On an aside, if we were in Wyoming, we would be looking pretty good for having two red cards because that would mean we would have at least two members in the fire department who would be either Engine Bosses, or at the very least Engine Operators (am I the only person who knows this?) Alas, we are playing football, so I guess they're bad (stupid people from Wyoming flaunting their red cards).

Where was I? Ah yes, back to the game. Well, being relegated to ten men put a damper on our spirits and though we played with our heads up, and even mustered a few chances, we conceded three more goals after that and lost 5-1. Was this game for real? Can't we call in a 'mulligan' or something?
It should be noted that we held our own for various parts of the second half being down a man, and we shouldn't feel too bad of the result (2-1 while at full strength). However, I must point out that I believe the chances to be 3-1 in our favor of shots that 'should have been' goals. If that held true, while it would still be a loss, 6-4 would look much better on the score board.

I am not harping on the red cards (although, it may look like it), I am simply frustrated (along with many others I'm sure), about the way the season is progressing. We are MUCH better than our standings indicate. While we deserved today's loss, we should be better off than we are.

*Notes: A special thanks goes out to George (and his son), Karl and Christophe (even though he's the coach) for supporting the team on the sidelines this week. A tough game all. Hold your heads high, we are better than this. We can still get back into the thick of things with some deserved wins. We need everyone into it when we play Seoul United after the holiday. Let's go Harriers!

Now on to the quote ... Ha! I'm not really going to tell you why I put that quote in. Many sports writers put random quotes into their writing. Many times they don't make a whole lot of sense and the writers don't even attempt to explain them. They only make sense in the writer's convoluted head, and (while I'm not a sports writer, or perhaps even a good writer), it made sense to me and I thought I would do the same. Make sense of it as you will:) -- that must be why we have a forum right?ˇˇ
