Game Summary (by Dan):
ˇˇIf one (or in fact all) were to refer back to the previous match report vs the said team in the title, one would recall that the winds were not in our favor. Today however, while it appeared we were fighting those very same winds, we weathered the storm and came away with a much deserved 3 points.
Playing on our home pitch, we started to go back to the style that has actually been detrimental to us: kick the ball upfield and hope that a striker can get a shot on. However, smarter heads prevailed soon in, and we started to control the ball, and challenged extremely well when without it. Players 1 through 14? 15? How many today? Doesn't matter, 1 through end played good team ball today.
The first half saw us control much of the tempo, and we were not without our chances. We had several corners and throw-ins to the danger zone, but were unable to capitalize. Roughly 20 minutes in, we were finally awarded for our hard work. From a corner, Frederic got a good shot on that Sylvain also got a piece of, thus giving the goal to Sylvain and the assist to Frederic. Shortly thereafter, with good ball movement by St.Pats, a mistake by us, and a rocket of a shot by their forward, we found ourselves in a 1-1 tie. We did miss a sitter or two after that, but St.Pats didn't really press and we walked into the half all tied up.
In the second half, we gained a lot of momentum only to have it consistently dashed on the rocks with shots wide, off the cross bar, the goal post, or very well saved by their keeper. Indeed, without him the score could have easily been higher -- and in fact if missed opportunities were capitalized upon, wow - what a final tally it might have been. However, we were undaunted in our pressure and after several good throw-ins by Jason, Evan finally got a good head on one that found its way to back of the twine: 2-1 HRH.
St.Pats were not without their chances in the second half either. The had several decent shots that Dean handled quite cleanly, and they also missed a few shots wide and hit the bar and post. We did not let their momentum carry over, and after several flurries, Guillaume hit a low hard shot that bounced off the far post and came right to none other than one of captains, Evan, who calmly buried it into the gaping hole of the net: 3-1. It got a little hairy with St.Pats pressing hard, getting one good free head on the ball which Dean again handled.
When it was all said and done, we left the field having gained 3 points, and having shunned those so called dieties that kept us from those very same points the last time.
*Notes:Well, this is two in a row, 6
points for the board, and it gives us an outside chance at finishing very near
the top if we hold out own, and hope that some of the others above us falter. We
played very well today. A few names come to mind to this scribe ... Christophe,
Jason, Dean, Francesco, Lawrence, Evan for his two goals ... I mean, everyone
who was in today played within himself, and played good team ball - everyone
deserves credit for this win. It was much needed, and well deserved. Excellent
work lads. Stay limber for Daejeon next week!
