Game Summary (by Dan):
To kick off (no pun intended), fair play to Celtic
for having such a wonderful pitch to play on - though it is in Suwon, the pitch
itself certainly almost makes it worth the drive - winning the game makes it the
most satisfactory, but I'm getting ahead of myself. The game started a tad late,
but not to worry, we had lights, and they certainly provided for. When the match
got underway, neither team took control, and both were feeling each other out a
little bit. About 10 minutes in Georg made a nifty pass to Christophe streaking
up from his usual midfield position. Christophe, with a neat little pullback to
his trusty left foot, found the keeper a tad out of position to put us up by one
goal. Roughly 7 minutes after that, on a play spurred by Karl's tenacity, Georg
found himself the recipient of yet another of Karl's passes this season, and
Georg made no mistake with a laser that gave HRH a 2-0 lead. Celtic made the
first half interesting when, after a mistake on our part, and with good hustle
from their forward, they cut the deficit to 2-1, and the score stayed that way
until the half. It stayed that way because Dean helped us out tonnes by saving a
sure goal that he lost in the lights, but that he got just enough of to push
high and away from the back of the net - an excellent reaction.
The second half saw both teams get their chances, but with us undoubtedly getting more. A goal post/a shot inside the six/another just over the bar ... however, we were not without our goals either. A good run down the right side by Christophe, followed by an even better pass from Christophe, resulted in an even better goal as Georg volleyed Christphe's pass into the back of the net that the keeper had no chance on (Georg, why don't you have 20 goals yet?) - 3-1. Later, in the latter stages of the 2nd half, we were awarded a free kick. Francesco's wonderfully placed ball found the top of Evan's head, and was directed perfectly to Guillaume - 4-1, and we were feeling pretty good about ourselves. Later, another poorly played ball by us found us up by 2 goals with about 10 minutes left. Celtic played with a lot of pride and cut the deficit to 1 goal with about 5 minutes left after that. Things got a little hairy, but we hung on for the win, with the final tally being 4-3 HRH.
*Notes: We defended quite well for
almost the entire game, and much credit should go to those who played in defense
- in fact all who played there. Our two laapses did result in 2 Celtic goals,
something we should be wary of in the future. Our midfield did a very good job
controlling the ball, and 3 of our 4 goals came from our strikers - well in.
This pitch was much bigger than the last time we played Celtic at Apukujeong, and I must say that though we probably defended that game the best we have defended all year, we certainly scored more on the larger pitch. No disrespect, but much thought and bile went onto the SSFL message board about the size of our pitch after that 1-1 tie earlier in the season, and today we played an away game on a larger pitch and we came away the victors ... interesting. Perhaps we should invest in a larger pitch ourselves? ... perhaps it is our little field hampering our game? ... just food for thought ... don't really plan on giving up the little guy just play on a dirt one, but if we could find a larger artificial or even grass pitch ... ? Ah, the goals we might score ... Good work today lads!
