Game Summary (by Dan):
Hmmm, how to write eloquently about today? Can't really. We fell apart (as a whole) on the pitch today. I say 'today' rather flippantly as it is Tuesday night that this is being written. It has taken me a bit of time to recover from the drubbing we received. I'l tell you, it's much easier to write a report if we played particularly well, or if we won, but we did neither today. Where to begin ... from the start I guess ...
Playing SBFC we thought we had to bring our "A" game, a few of us did no doubt, but many more of us did not (yours truly tops the list). SBFC started the scoring out with the infamous Didi floating a free kick into the six for a header that easily found its way past the keeper, who had little chance at stopping it. Shortly thereafter, we were lucky to be awarded a penalty kick that Evan made sure of, and we tied up the score 1-1. SBFC kept us on our heels, and from another free kick (just on the opposite side of the field), Didi again found the same striker for a 2-1 lead. We were not without our chances, and we had some good shots, credit their keeper with a few good saves, but we had quite a bit of difficulty finishing shots and runs. SBFC's 3rd goal came just before the half, when a ball got redirected in front of the keeper by our defender trying to stop a shot, thus resulting in a 3-1 halftime lead for SBFC.
We were down, but not out. We felt we had our chances in the first half, and we thought we could get back in the game in the 2nd half. Then I came in. While we were down 2 goals, we felt we were in it. Let's make no mistake, or even attempt to pull any punches, I played like a steaming pile of horse feces, and certainly took the wind out of our sails by letting in a very soft goal that to my embarrassment, thought was actually going over the crossbar and thus made little effort to punch away. However, it wasn't, and 5-1 (after a previous blast to the top corner that skipped off our defender's head and was redirected) was much more daunting than 3-1. We did manage to put together a few runs, and we had a few chances, but putting the ball wide or over the crossbar has little effect on our final tally (at least for the positive).
Indeed, a bright spot for the team (other than the always tenacious Christophe), was Jason our big center back. He had the arduous task of man-marking Miles, and to my knowledge, Miles did not score, and Jason did, thus rounding out the final score at 5-2 for SBFC. Bravo Jason, well done.
*Notes: We showed today that we need a
little more organization on the pitch. SBFC controlled much of the tempo of the
game, and had no problems passing the ball back to defenders or switching sides.
Let's work as a unit and finish the season on a high note. Our next games are
two weeks from now. Best of luck to those going overseas for the tourney, but
come back refreshed and ready to finish the season strong. Those of us involved
in the friendly this week, let's have fun and not get injured! See you all on
the pitch.
