Game Summary (by Dan):

Fresh off of last week's futsol tournament victory, the Harriers took the field in a committed fashion versus Celtic. The match started out with the Harriers well in control of the ball, and with the time of possession certainly in our favor (favour for any of you who would rather the imperialistic British spelling, such as those Canadians on the team). After 20 minutes of play, the Harriers looked poised to score at any moment. However, it was not the Harriers who struck first. A well thrown ball from #23 (Dennis) was placed well on a head that made its way to #20 (Dan), who tapped it into the corner; 1-0 for the bad guys. Undaunted by the small deficit, the Harriers worked their way back into a tie roughly 12 minutes later. In what can only be considered a scrum of sorts, the ball ping-ponged its way in a very flirtatious manner around the Celtic net hitting several Harrier and Celtic players before Lawrence found Evan at the top of the six-yard box, who calmly put the ball in the back of the net for 1-1 tie. Soon after the halftime whistle was blown.

The second half saw neither team with many chances. This was due to several reasons. As with the first half, the Harriers' defense was stellar, spear-headed by the monster in the middle (Joel). Our new found defender (Francesco) had an all around great game, moving from his usual midfield position. Kevin and Markus controlled the wings with poise, and Sun did a respectable job as a sub. The Celtic forwards couldn't seem to find the net on their own accord either. The Harriers were unable to find the net, due to lack of chances, (except for Sean's blast that the keeper handled sloppily enough to push aside  -- or was that Jean? Sorry, I can't remember), but I suppose I should also say that the Celtic defenders held their own as well. Our midfield and forwards played hard, but were unable to score a second goal, however Celtic failed to score as well. Thus, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

A decent result against a strong team. The first game of the season proved that the Harriers are indeed going to be force to be reckoned with if we can keep the ball on the floor more than in the air. A special mention should go out to Aiden, Jason, Joos, and Philippe for lending their support to the team by showing up even though they were not on the active roster for the game. Thanks a lot guys! (and as Joos was saying, at least none of the last four players mentioned made any errors on the pitch today). Until next week versus St. Pats ...
