The Interview - Randal Smith (03/04)

¡¡

What is your name?

Tae-stee Yung St. Natch (It¡¯s a Korean-French name)

Your date of birth (please).

December 25, 1972

Whereabouts are you from originally?

What all my fellow countrymen say when we¡¯re being dicks: United States of America. #1.

¡¡

How long have you been living in Hanguk?

Hanguk?? No, I live in South Korea.

What do you do?

edjucate young minds

Which football team do you support?

Manchester United when they¡¯re winning because I know it pisses people off.

Your preferred position?

upright during the day, horizontal at night. Visa versa on weekends.

Your favorite football player of all time?

me. But a close second is Cantona, because he was such a prick.

Most memorable Han River Harriers moment?

It has to be the string of last gasp victories at the Paju Tournament  culminating with our final victory against SBFC, the first time we had ever beaten them. Great goal Sean!

Other big moments were our very first game as Harriers where we managed to overcome Seoul United and more recently our first victory over SBFC in regular league play.

Also memorable for the wrong reasons was our heart-breaking defeat to St. Pats last season after coming back from a 3-0 deficit (and Evan¡¯s spectacular goal from the center circle) only to lose in the last minute of the game. Dou!

What is your most memorable footballing moment as a spectator?

When Stefan Effenberg gave his own fans the bird. Ha, ha, that was classic! You can¡¯t blame him though, can you? They were Germans.

Which SSFL player(s) do you least enjoy opposing?

We always seem to lose against the Irish teams (Celtic and St. Pats) in the dying seconds of the match. Very frustrating. They must be cheating somehow.

Who is your dream woman/man?

Any woman at SLimelight at 4 am on Sunday morning. You know they¡¯re still there for a reason¡¦

Likes/Dislikes/Pet-Peeves?

people in general, taxi drivers in particular.

Hobbies?

I used to enjoy reading a lot but ever since I discovered PC games I frankly find reading a bit dull. It all started last year I paid a visit to my old buddies in Beijing – all 30+ years old like me – and found them playing video games all day. So much for cultural exchange. Anyway, I figured, ¡°when in Rome¡± and I gave it a go and found, late in life, that I loved it. On my last trip to Bangkok I bought four or five games and now I play all the time. I¡¯m addicted. My favorite is ¡°Battlefield 1942¡±. It¡¯s a first person shooter game like ¡°Counterstrike¡± or ¡°Call of Duty¡±, with the difference that it allows you to jump in tanks, aircraft, ships, jeeps, etc. (I hope there are no girls reading this).

Best way to spend the evening after a Sunday football match.

Rubbing my sore ****s.

Your favorite hangout/bar/club in Seoul?

On the weekend I like to buy the International Herald Tribune and read it at the Starbucks in Gwanghwamun. I don¡¯t really hang out in bars/clubs anymore. Too bloody expensive

Your plans for the future?

None worthwhile

Umm....thanks for the interview, Randal. -David
