-Eddie is based on the writer, Eric Hiers
-Lucy is based on his ex-girlfriend, Sarah
-Dave's attitude toward Eddie and Lucy was taken from a friend of Eric's attitude toward Eric and his ex-girlfriend.
- Jesse and Brandon are loosely based on two of Eric's best friends who have the same names.
- The character, Ronnie is based on the guy who ended up going to the Prom with Eric's ex-girlfriend.
- The character of Tobey is based on Eric's little brother, Patrick (who isn't really gay)
- The song, Glycerine (by Bush), which is used as the theme song, was a favorite song of Eric and his ex-girlfriend.
- The name Eddie was a homage to Edward Scissorhands.
- The name Lucy was taken from the script Eric's ex-girlfriend was working on, Earth To Lucy.
- Eric's ex-girlfriend now works at a movie theater, just like Lucy does at the end of the story. But the end of the story was written before Eric and his ex-girlfriend broke up, so that is an uncanny coincidence.
- Several scenes of the now dead film, The Boogeyman, show up in the script for Eddie's film, The Reaper.
- Several scenes of Eric's ex-girlfriend's script Earth To Lucy show up for Lucy's film.
- The song Eddie sings while moarning his break-up with Lucy was written by Eric Hiers for his failed music album, THE REAL WORLD.
- The song Brandon sings when messing with Dave's guitar was written by Brandon Hargrove, the "real Brandon".
