"I mean umm" Patrick had to find a quick way out, it was bad enough Lara and Holly knew about each other but if they new about Rachel he'd lose them both. Forever. "Rachel is my sister!"
"Funny, you never mentioned a sister before!"
"Well she's just come back from New York. Now if you dont mind I've got to call Holly." Before it's to late.
Part five
"Oh god what a mess." Patrick was flicking through the phone book looking for Holly's number even though he knew it by heart; it was just to buy him some time to think things over. He had 4 options as far as he could see, and everyone had consequences.
He could choose Holly, if she'd have him. Holly was the one he always came running back to when things went wrong, the one he trusted and the only one he could see himself settling down with. She was also the only person who broken his heart. She was the only person he'd let close enough to hurt him. 3 times. Once is average, twice is careless but three times. But three time! That was just unforgivable. The first time was in med school, she hadn't trusted him enough to believe him over a scum bag like Ed and then she had left as soon as she graduated, moving as far away from him as she could. And all the time he had been working with her at Holby she had been breaking his heart, slowly and drawn out, a form of punishment. Or at least thats what it felt like. She had slowly been wearing him down, breaking his heart piece by piece. And then, just when things were starting to get better for them, she left. Leaving him and Holby without a second thought.
Then there was option 2: Lara. Lovely, supportive Lara who helped him through all the s**t he had to deal with at work. She was always there for him but was that enough?  It wasn't, he felt, the sort of relationship where you knew from the start you were destined to be together. It was a relationship where two people were attracted to each other and they were seeing if it would work out, nothing serious, nothing heavy, just a laugh. Well thats what it was to him but did it mean more to Lara? He didn't know.
Another choice in all of this was Rachel. Rachel who worshiped the ground he walked on. Rachel was the easy option, no complications. She was there when he wanted her and she didn't demand something he couldnt give her: a relationship and commitment.
The only other option was to move away and start all over again. A new beginning. But he couldn't have no one, he couldnt bear to be alone all over again. No, he was going to have to choose. But which one
"Patrick! Come on how long does it take to look up a name in a phone book?!"
"Oh yeah. Sorry just doing it."
He dialled the number, took a deep breath and told him self: "Time to face the music!"
"Hi! Holly? It's Patrick."
"Patrick. Patrick who?"
"Patrick who! Who many Patricks do you know?"
"Umm 4 or 5."
"Yeah and how many do you know from Yorkshire?"
"None."
"None?"
"Well, I used to know one but you can't be him. He wouldnt do this to me. He keeps his promises."
"Holly please don't. I am so sorry. I love you." The door slammed loudly.
"Thats nice for you. Goodbye Patrick."
Patrick hung up feeling awful. Tears stung his eyes and the silence was ringing in his ears.
"Lara?" he called but no reply came.
He was alone.
All he could hear was the radio in his room, playing softly
'I was looking for another you,
And I found another one.
I was looking for another you,
And when I looked round you were gone.'
Part six
Patrick rolled over and looked at the clock it read 5:18. It was cold and dark. He was tiered, as he hadnt slept a wink all night. At 10pm Lara had come back. She had puffy red eyes from crying and when he first looked at her he'd seen a flash of anger cross her face then, nothing. Like she had no feelings for him what so ever. That hurt. He told her all about Holly, from start to now. He thought it would help, that it would explain all his actions, but it didnt. She still stared at him with the same expressionless stare. Like she wasnt listening and she didnt care. But he couldnt blame her. He'd asked her if she could ever forgive him and she said she didnt know and that he ought to sleep on the sofa tonight. So thats where he'd been. All night. Lying on the sofa re-playing all that had happened in the day. Why? That was all he had. Why now? Why did she come back when he was finally getting over her? Why did he always fall for her no matter what she had done? And why did every one involved end up getting hurt? He decided the only way he could explain it was that women were like buses, you wait forever for one and three come at once. Just his luck.  So he lay their all night feeling sorry for himself. Trying to justify what he had done by thinking every one else was in the wrong except for him. Forgetting the fact it was his fault he was cheating on all of them. Making out it was all their fault. The problem was that until now he had believed he was Patrick Spiller, superman, can do anything and not get caught. Can do anything without hurting anyone or getting hurt. He had believed he was invincible and he has now been brought back down to earth with a bang. And a slap round the face.
Part seven
Holly sat down at the table with a huge mug of coffee. Head still banging from the night before. She had drunk all the alcohol in the house and cried all the tears she could. So now she was paying for it. She was glad of some peace and quiet. In these flats there was hardly a moment that went by without a baby crying. Trust Holly to get a hang over just when she had to see Max, what wonderful timing she had! She managed to brush her hair, drink her coffee and find her car keys all at once so in about 10 minutes she was flying out the door. A piece of toast in her mouth, her jacket over one arm while her other hand was putting the pin number into her phone.
Amazingly she arrived at A+E 5 minutes early so she had time to listen to Jack and that new nurse try and chat her up, catch up on all the gossip with Chloe and Anna and have a cup of tea! Max was running late as normal so she sat out side his office for 20 minutes getting more and more nervous every minute that passed. By the time she got called in she was positive he was going to tell her where to go and she was in two minds about whether to go in. But she did.
"Hello Holly. Sorry about the wait, got a bit behind. Anyhow come in! Sit down!"
"Thanks. I've come to see if I could, if it was at all possible, to get my old job back."
"Your old job? Well that could be a bit difficult. You see we have already got your replacement in but one of my other SHOs in A+E is off, maternity leave, and she's not sure if she's coming back so you can fill in for her. I can't guarantee that it'll be permanent"
"No Max that'll be great thanks!"
"Ok then. You can start tomorrow."
Holly walked out of Max's office grinning like a Cheshire cat. Her smile soon faded though when she saw Patrick walking in her direction. Quickly she stepped into the toilets until he had passed.
"Phew" she said to her self " That was a close one. I'll have to face him soon but not yet. I'm not ready." She checked to make sure he had defiantly gone and she walked out off the toilets and off home. The door swung shut and Lara looked up from the sink.
"So that's the famous Holly!"
