HOW CANCER HAS AFFECTED US...
Cst. Larry PEYTON: "Like most people's family, mine has been affected by cancer as well. My Uncle Gordon passed away in 2005 because of the disease. I never met my grandfather Sandy Forward; he died from cancer while my mother was still a teenager. My Uncle Sandy Forward (Jr.) and his wife, Vera Forward, are both currently fighting their cancer. And my wife lost her grandfather, Robert Kielly, to the disease while she was a child. A good buddy of mine, Gerald "Chase" Ouellet, won his fight with cancer some years ago. And no doubt there are other's that I have failed to mention here."
Calvin SMITH: "My wife wanted to collect pledges and have her head shaved for this event, but she was unable. So I decided to do it for her. She lost her father to cancer, and I lost an uncle."

Audrey SMITH: "I decided that I had to be part of this and get my head shaved as well. Now Calvin and I are both doing it. My father died of cancer; that's a big reason I want to help."
Corinne GALARNEAU: "Cancer has affected my life in more ways than I wish to count. I've lost 3 grandparents, 3 aunts, an uncle and a 46 year old cousin to cancer. I am happy to report that there have been victories as well. My dad successfully fought melanoma. Last year, my Uncle John lost a kidney to cancer. Two weeks ago he received a kidney transplant and is doing exceptionally well! I've also faced this demon myself. Cancer is an evil entity that needs to be conquered. Anything that I can do to raise awareness and money for the fight, I am glad to do. Shaving my head is a small price to pay."
S/Cst. John ARMSTRONG: "My list is too long of family members that have either died or suffered from cancer. Just this week my Mom, from Northern Ontario, phoned to tell me our family friend, Pat, from the Maritimes has been diagnosed with cancer and has to start chemo treatments right away. It's the disease that simply has or will affect every family. So if shaving the 'few hairs' on my head and upper lip will raise a few dollars for cancer research that's a good thing. My family is a little concerned of my appearance for my son's grade 12 grad pictures the weekend after the shaving but we concluded that there isn't a good time to get cancer or start cancer treatments either. So we'd better suck it up and raise some dollars for the cure."

Perry YAKE: Perry was born and raised in Cappon; he has worked for Special Areas for 17 years, and is now one of the construction foreman. His purpose for doing this is just to raise money for cancer. If he raises over $1,000 he will shave off his beard too! Everyone at work is supporting him because he really needs a hair cut!
Chris OLSEN (with Cole) "I can really feel for anyone who has to deal with cancer. I lost my mother to it after her third bout with the disease when I was 21. Not only does it hurt to lose someone so close to you but not being able to share your accomplishments in life - such as the family you have raised - makes the pain linger forever. If shaving my head makes it possible that even one more person may not have to go through the same experience, it makes it a pretty easy decision to make. My son Cole (5yrs) is also shaving his head for cancer. In his own words, "I don't want people to get sick with that cancer". Not only does cancer hit anyone at any age, but at any age we can help stop it."
Shane GALARNEAU (8 years old) "I thought it would be cool to help my mom raise money to fight cancer. My Great Grandpa Galarneau and Auntie Marion Mennis had cancer and I will never see them anymore. Cancer is bad and mom says the money we raise shaving our heads will go to helping fight it. That's why I am shaving my head."
