The Motivation & The Inspiration...
The Hanna Cops4Cancer event is being voluntarily organized by Constable Larry PEYTON, member of the Hanna Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.  There are several purposes of the event: to create greater relationships between the community and the police and other public sector officers; to have a fun-filled family day; to try and experience the loss of hair by chemotherapy patients; and obviously to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society.
In order to organize and participate in this "Head For A Cure" event, Cst. PEYTON has found the "motivation" and the "inspiration" from past experiences.
The "MOTIVATION"
Cst. PEYTON's father, S/Sgt.(ret.) L.G. PEYTON of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, was also involved in the Cops4Cancer Head For A Cure event while he was a police officer.

His father's participation in such a fun, worthwhile event motived Cst. PEYTON to organize a similar fundraiser in Hanna, Alberta.
The "INSPIRATION"
In August 2005, Cst. Larry PEYTON & his family returned to St. John's, Newfoundland for a family vacation.  While at the local horse racing track, Larry was told that his uncle, Gordon FORWARD, was also present.  Prior to speaking with his uncle, Larry was warned that Gordon had lost a significant amount of weight, and was looking quite ill, due to his battle with cancer.  Shortly thereafter, Larry met & spoke with his uncle; the change in his appearance, stature, and even the tone of his voice had an immediate impact upon Larry.  Despite the battle, Gordon remained proud and determined, and was more worried about policing in today's world than he was about the disease.

A few weeks later, Gordon FORWARD eventually succumbed to cancer.  He will be forever missed, but never forgotten.  In honour of his memory, and to help try and find a cure, Cst. PEYTON undertook the Hanna Cops4Cancer fundraising campaign.
