The main portion of the Hanna RCMP Cops4Cancer event was held in Hanna yesterday. There were originally 21 participants who agreed to shave their heads and/or facial hair, however the excitement and desire to raise more funds caused 5 more people to have their heads shaved at the event... it also caused a Special Constable to "donate" his eyebrows to the cause, and a male RCMP officer to raise more money and have his legs shaved! The event drew large crowds, who were willing to help with the campaign, throughout the day. The silent auction and raffle were a great success, as was the BBQ, face painting, and Kidz Printz. The most excitement was generated by the live auctions to determine who would "pay" to have the privilege of shaving a participant's head or facial hair. One spectator, also an RCMP officer, paid $300 to shave a certain Mountie's head!
At the end of the day, $23,783.87 was raised and then donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.
