Hiking through the forest there is a quick change in climate and soil.
The temp. cools down about 10 degrees and the trail is soft and full of pine needles.
There was a lot of snow around the area too.
The trail is hard to find at times, you just stay near the creek and continue.
Somewhere around 3 & 1/2 to 4 miles from the start of the hike there is a waterfall.  It has a lot of ice around it this time of year.
It is best seen from the left (east) side of the creek.
There is a log laying across the creek that you can walk on to get over the creek to the east side just before the falls.
Above the falls is a large meadow. It  is easiest to get to from the right (west) side of the creek.
Hunter Lake is supposed to be another 3 & 1/2 to 4 miles on up stream.
There is no trail above the falls that I've found yet, but I haven't tried to hard to get there either.
Some day!
It took 2 hours to get to the falls on this hike, so I'll need all day (or 2) to find the lake and get back.
The hike back is just as enjoyable.  There are nice views of the city of Reno and the surrounding area just before you leave the wilderness area.
