History of soccer:

The united states was the first British colony who started playing soccer. As far back as 1609 they played some form of football. In 1827 they started a football contest that where played on the first monday of the new school year. These games were quite rowdy as the event was called bloody monday. But the rules were quiet different from todays playing.
The round ball was not indroduced until the 1850�s. The modern form of soccer was made in England in the early 1830�s. Was seemed as a way of keeping young kids out of trouble at home and in the school.The kids learnt about teamwork.
When soccer first started in the United states, it was played by schoolboy and college teams, and was a upper-class game. The Oneida soccer club, formed in Boston in 1862 is known as the first soccer club. The American Football Association was formed in 1884.
Today the interess for the sport is big and the fan respons is enthusiastic.

womens soccer:
today the US finds itself on the top country in the world for women soccer. Womens league have existed in Europe since 1930, in the United States however, womens soccer didn�t take root until the late 1970's. The first national women's league did not come before 1995, and not until 2001 the first professional womens's league made it's debut.
But after two world cup titles and olympic gold and silver medals, the US dominates the world in the womens game.
In 1985 the first women's national squad was formed.

In the womens league in US there are also some Norwegian that have success.
