Administrative Setup:

Executive and Judicial bodies constitute and run the district Government.

Prior to the introduction of the new setup, district Executive administration

contained Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner and extra

Assistant Commissioner Hangu. But now the new setup has changed

the district executive pattern and the executive officers i.e. D.C and A.C

have been replaced by D.R.O (district revenue officer) and D.D.R.O (deputy district revenue officer) respectively. According to this new system, the district administration comprises District Nazim and Superintendent of Police (S.P). Besides, two D.S.Ps, one as investigative officer and another as in charge of Thana, function under S.P as his sub-ordinate. S.P is regarded as head of the district police department while District Nazim is the real authoritative body of the district and all the executive officers are accountable to him.39

D.C.O (District Co-ordination Officer), as the name points out is a source of co-ordination in the district administration. He works like a bridge or link between the district executive i.e. Nazim and the district departments. All-important bills have access to Nazim through D.C.O’s office.40

Like executive, judiciary too, is a remarkable part of the district administration. District courts are established at Hangu and its judicial system like other districts of the province comprises District and Session Judge along with two subsidiary courts of Senior Civil Judge and Civil Judge respectively. District and Session Court is the supreme court of the district that conducts special cases and has the sole power to approve B.B.A (bail before arrest). It acts as an appellate court in which petition against any decision of the two assistant courts be filed. Its decisions cannot be challenged in the district courts except in High Court of the province. Similarly, Senior Civil Judge and Civil Judge, carry out all civil cases. The same judges are called Judicial Magistrates and family judges in criminal as well as family cases respectively.41
