Alanis to receive Tolerance Award
By JAM! Music
Ottawa-born singer Alanis Morissette is to receive a Global Tolerance Award from the Friends Of The United Nations.

Morissette is to be presented with the award Dec. 11 in New York City for her "outstanding contributions to promote tolerance through the arts, in addition to her work on behalf of tolerance in her personal life and activities," Warner Music Canada said in a press release.

Friends of the United Nations is an independent, non-partisan organization dedicated to increasing awareness of the United Nations' activities.

Morissette recently performed at the John Lennon tribute concert in New York, which raised funds for gun control and for the victims of the Sept. 11 attack.

The singer also played at the Music Without Borders Live event in Toronto, which raised money for the UN's Donor Alert Appeal, and at Seattle's Groundworks benefit for the Act To Reduce Hunger organization.

Morissette's new album, "Under Rug Swept," is due for release Feb. 26.
