Each rocket was purchased with monies obtained through corporate fundraising coordinated by the Hanby Technology Student Association. Seasons Pizza and Carl Jones Construction provided funding. Auto Collision Service of New Castle did the custom painting, and Fast Signs of Wilmington applied the lettering and graphics.
Worm Crazy, flew on the rocket named “Liberty” to a 1st place win in the advanced division, carrying a payload science experiment developed with the assistance of Ms. Jessica Krim. The experiment was designed to test the effects of pressure, altitude and acceleration on worm.
Zack and the Beanstalk, flew on a rocket named “Zack”. Hanby placed a science experiment on board to study the effects of magnetism on seed growth.
Both rockets were recovered after an intense search found one of them hung up in a tree. Members from Lewes Fire Company climbed up a tree to rescue the rocket “Liberty”. Zack, the rocket was recovered from the surf by Hanby student Stephen Fields.
