Stray Dog
"Nora Inu" (1949)

| Title: | Drunken Angel |
| Descriptor: | Shimura Takashi and Mifune are at it again! The dynamic duo fill the screen with a compelling story of the double. Mifune, a homicide detective at the prefecture police station has his Colt pistol stolen. Later the next day, a homicide is reported. Forensics show that it was his exact pistol that killed the victim, a by-stander of a robbery. Placed under Detective Sato (Takashi) Mifune realizes that he and the offender share more than the pistol. Both are war veterans, both had their knapsack stolen after the war, both have a bitter taste from the war. Both had nothing to live for after the war - like stray dogs. However, Takashi reminds Mifune that he has chosen to help people, while Yusa (the offender) has chosen to hurt people. |

| Comments: | Kurosawa again presents his audience with a unique post war perspective. Gaman - even though the war destroyed many, we must not loose the more important battle, that against war itself. The soul of the human race must transcend the bitter defeat or victory of WWII. Even stray dogs can find a bone to bury. Mifune is brilliant =). |
