R2-D2 (Artoo Deetoo) and C-3PO (See Threepio) are two hard working droids. Artoo is an astromech droid and serves many functions. Threepio is a protocol droid and interpreter. He also serves many other functions and Threepio can do somethings humans can because of his human- like form. The two droids who are counterparts for one another had been in service of Old Republic and the Allience before they were bought off of Jawas be Owen Lars, Luke Skywalker's uncle.
Following the death of Owen and Beru Lars, Luke took the droids with him. The two droids helped Luke and his friends in many ways. Threepio translating other languages in key situations and negotiaitions. Artoo was Luke's little assistant in every battle as he sat in his little socket right behind the cockpit of Luke's X-Wing. Artoo can also hack computers and open locked doors wjen needed too. As you can see this droid pair played a key role in the Star Wars universe.
