Understanding Your Hamster
When you begin to understand your hamster's personality and lifestyle, you'll know how to best care for it's needs. Hamster's have a few, simple living requirements:
A home large enough to move around in.
A quiet place to hide and sleep.
Clean, dry living conditions.
A well-balanced diet.
Love and affection from you!
The location for your hamster home should not be in direct sunlight or in front of heaters or air conditioners. Hamsters are desert creatures with and average lifespan of 2 to 4 years. They like dry warm environments and they love to borrow and run through tunnels. Hamsters are hard workers. You will see them hoarding there food. Hamsters are noctunal which means they sleep during the day and are awake at night. So when you begin your day try not to disturb your hamster. A cranky hamster is not a fun hamster. But dont worry they'll be ready to play by late afternoon. The best way for you and your hamster to get acquainted is to start softly stroking your pet a little each day. You might want to try hand feeding him some treats. When he seems less nervous, it's time to pick him up. Hold him gently but securley so he will feel safe and and protected. Soon, you'll feel comfortable with each other. Hamsters can't speak but they do have feelings and they express them through body language. If you watch your hamster closely, you may understand just what he is saying...: *When he yawns and streteches with sleepy eyes, he's content *When he sits up, he's very curious and something he smells, sees or hears *If you notice your hamster making continual quick jerking motion, or a sudden face washing, it means he is frightened. *When your hamsters clean each other, it's a sign of affection
