CARING

 

Hamster has a short life-span, we need to take good care of them so that they can grow healthy and live happily. Some basics things need to be aware to ensure they have a better and peaceful environment. In this web page, we are going to look at the type of cages suitable  for the hamster and  provide you  some ways to take care of  them. A general animal  health guides list will also be shown.

 

     HAMSTER'S CAGE

  • Ensure that  there are plenty of spaces for them.

  • Avoid buying round  and oval shape cages because they will get " crazy " in them as they lose orientation.

  • Providing suitable distance between the bars of  the cages are necessary to avoid them running away from the cage.

  • Make sure that there is enough air circulation and  a moderate temperature is maintained ( Note: Never left you cage under the sunlight and keep them away from drafts.)

  • The cage should be made up of materials which they are unable to chew since they like to gnaw.

      GENERAL HEALTH HECK LIST

TEETH

Make sure their teeth wearing down correctly and providing them with hard things (e.g.  toys) to chew.

NOSE

Wet nose indicate a cold or an allergy. Keep your pets away from draft and dusty wood shavings and strong smelling dyes in bedding. Moderate temperature is suitable for them to live healthy.

EYES

Firstly if its eye looks watery, it may be due to some substances stick on their eyes. Secondly, if it swells and fill with fluid, you must check to ensure your hamster do not infect the disease called "Glaucoma". If you ever notice a 'bluish' circle in the centre of their eye, do not ignore it. This is a sign to indicate that your hamsters have infected a disease called  'cataracts'. But this type of condition usually take place in their older age.

SKIN & FUR

If a young hamster show signs of fur loss, start investigate the cause of it. This symptoms may be due to mites and allergies. If an hamster suffer from mites, it will often continually scratch at its skin. Its skin  will turn sore and red when it is suffering from allergic.

NAILS

Thimming the nails of the hamsters on a weekly basic since their nails grow very fast.

HAMSTER'S EXCRETORY SYSTEM

If you hamsters shows symptom of diarrhoea, investigation should be carried out. This  may be due to a serious indication called 'wet tail'. They usually excrete  unpleasant smelling discharge. Another reason may be due to ample of moist foods given to them.

 

The list given above is only a guidelines so visit your veterinarian if you notice any unusual sign. Keep in mind that an hamster can loss their life easily if they get sick.
