Humans on earth from the start have needed shoes for protection of their feet.  From the first humans who used leaves to the indians who used Moccasins.  From the shoemaker of the 1700 century to the factories of today shoes have been around.

Over the last couple hundred years research and new elements have lead the ways to better and more comfortable shoes.  Sucess has come with such discoveries as Joseph Priestly in 1770 who first used rubber as an eraser.
New Balance was founded by William Riley in 1906 as the New Balance Arch Company, in Belmont,MA, New Balance manufactured arch supports and orthopedic shoes.  The company turned to customized running shoes in the !950's and 60's because of it's experience in handcrafting specialized footwear.  Later the company continued to grow and produce all kinds of shoes and apparel.  The company increased profits when it went world wide now making 1.16 billion worldwide for annual sales.
