| In adventuring parties, the Fighter serves as a front-line melee combatant, charging into the fray while his comrades support him with spells and ranged attacks.
As fighters gain experience, they get more opportunities to develop their fighting skills and can mast the most difficult ones relatively quickly. The Fighter has the best all-around fighting capabilities of all the classes. Fighters are familiar with all the standard weapons and armors. A given fighter may be especially capable with certain weapons; another might be trained to execute specific fancy maneuvers. The questing knight, the conquering overlord, the kings champion, the elite foot soldier, the hardened mercenary, and the bandit king all are fighters. Fighters can be stalwart defenders of those in need, cruel marauders, or gusty adventurers. Some are among the lands best souls, willing to ace death for the greater good. An adventuring fighter might call himself a warrior, a mercenary, a thug, or simply an adventurer. Dexterity is important for fighters who want to be archers or who want access to Dexterity-oriented feats, but the heavy armor that fighters usually wear reduces the benefit of a very high Dexterity score. The fighters class skills are Intimidate, Jump, Repair, and Swim. With relatively few skill points to dispose of, you must choose to focus on one or two skills or spread your points out over several skills. Intimidate is the most obvious choice, as it allows the fighter to attract the attention of enemies, drawing attacks away from softer targets such as sorcerers and rogues. Repair lets the fighter resort equipment that has been damaged after many blows of melee combat. With any extra skill points, Heal and Tumble are good choices for a fighter. As a fighter, common feat choices related to offense include Power Attack, Weapon Focus, Stunning Blow, and Point Blank Shot. Dodge and Combat Expertise are excellent if you meet the Dexterity or Intelligence minimums and want to boost your defense. Shield Mastery is another good defensive option. Other good choices include Iron Will, Lightning Reflexes, Bullheaded, or any of the feats that add bonuses to skills your want to emphasize. Fighters being play with Defensive Fighting, Heavy Armor Proficiency, Heroic Durability, Light Armor Proficiency, Martial Weapon Proficiency, Medium Armor Proficiency, Shield Proficiency: General, Simple Weapon Proficiency, Sneak, Sunder, Tower Shield Proficiency and Trip. |

| Axe- and shield-wielding dwarves are common for a good reason they are both dangerous and durable in melee. While most dwarves concentrate on their melee prowess, dwarf archers have no particular disadvantage, so dont forget about ranged attacks. | |||||||||||||||||||||
