| As a generalist, the Bard can be a powerful ally, able to play any role her party needs. As such, she often makes a great team leader.
Her magic can encourage allies, hold enemies rapt, and even twist the minds of her most dangerous foes to make them fight on her side. She is an accomplished healer, able to heal all but the most dire wounds. The Bard is perhaps the ultimate generalist. She makes all the other characters better at what they do, and she can fill in for any other character when needed. Her magic emphasizes charms and enchantments, and while she can only cast a limited number of spells, she can do so without selecting or preparing them in advance. It is said that music has a special magic, and the bard proves that saying true. Wandering across the land, gathering lore, telling stories, working magic with her music and living on the gratitude of her audience such is the lie of the bard. When chance or opportunity draws them into conflict, bards serve as diplomats, negotiators, messengers, scouts and spies. Charisma determines how powerful a spell a bard can cast, how many bonus spell points he receives and how hard those spells are to resist. Dexterity and Intelligence are important for many of the bards skills. The bard's class skills include Balance, Bluff, Concentration, Diplomacy, Haggle, Hide, Jump, Listen, Move Silently, Perform and Tumble. The bard's Perform skill is one of the most important, since it ties directly to his class abilities, including the ability off enemies to resist his fascinating song. One big choice is whether to focus on stealth, with Hide and Move Silently, or on social skills such as Bluff and Diplomacy. Feats that complement a bard's abilities include Mental Toughness, Combat Casting, and Skill Focus: Perform. You may also consider metamagic feats, such as Empower Spell, as a way to increase your spellcasting potency. To increase your melee combat survivability, consider Dodge, Toughness, or Great Fortitude. Bards begin play with Fascinate, Heroic Durability, Inspire Courage, Light Armor Proficiency, Martial Weapon Proficiency, Shield Proficiency: General, Simple Weapon Proficiency and Sneak. |

| Among the dwarves, bards are historians and genealogists as much as they are musicians and orators. They inspire their comrades to acts of bravery and valor by reminding them of the great deeds of their forebears. A dwarfs low Charisma makes bard a tough choice, obviously, but playing against type can be its own reward for players who savor a challenge. | ||||||||||||||||||||
