Page 73 Line 62 - Polonius, �Videlicet, a brothel- or so forth.� - Meaning- Even young men are being corrupted by such things as a brothel. Page 75 Line 78 -Ophelia, �My lord, as I was sewing in my closet, Lord Hamlet, With his doublet all embraced.� Meaning- Hamlet was trying to seduce the young lady by coming in undressed. Page 75 Line 86 -Polonius, � Mad for thy love,� Meaning- That because Hamlet is in love with Ophelia and he can�t have her he has gone crazy. Page 77 Line 112 Polonius, � That hath made him mad. I am sorry that with better need and Judgment.� Meaning- That he would be better off if he just tells her he loves her. Page 79 Line 17 King, � Whether aught to us unknown afflicts him thus.� Meaning- These actions we are trying to answer because they effect him so much. Page 81 Line 43 Polonius, �Have I, My Lord? I assure my good liege, I hold my duty as I hold my soul.� Meaning- That Polonius is and will always be a loyal servant to the King. Page 85 Line 96 Queen, � More matter with less art.� -Meaning- There is to much drama going on when things should just be out in the open. Page 85 Line 101 Polonius, � That we find out the cause of this effect, or, rather say, the cause of this defect.� Meaning- They are trying to say that there is something that is making this young man defective or crazy. Page 87 Line 120 -Polonius, � O dear Ophelia, I am ill at these numbers. I have not art to reckon my groans, but that I love thee best, O Most best, believe it, Adieu. Meaning- Polonius is guoting a letter that was given to Ophelia from Hamlet. Hamlet is telling Ophelia that his sexually wants her. Page 91 Line 175 Hamlet, � Excellent well. You are a fishmonger.� Meaning- Hamlet is trying to bring Polonius down by calling him a sales person. Page 91 Line 194 Hamlet, � Words, words, words.� Meaning- He is showing a spacey, craziness here. No one is sure if he is still acting or if he is really going crazy. Page 93 Line 207 Polonius, �Though this be madness, yet there is method in�t. Will you walk out of the air, my Lord? Hamlet, �Into my grave? Meaning- In this you finds out that Polonius questions Hamlet�s actions openly but Hamlet only replies in a confused tone. Page 93 Line 210 Polonius, �Indeed, That�s out of the air. How pregnant sometimes his replies are. A happiness that often madness hits on. Meaning- That Hamlets thoughts are now growing/aging to the point were there are relatively crazy. |
